Hundreds of people flocked to Wem Town Hall on Friday 11th October 2024 for the highly anticipated Health and Wellbeing Fair, where they had the opportunity to meet with various organisations and community groups dedicated to improving health and wellbeing.
The event attracted a significant number of visitors eager to explore the many resources and services available locally. A wide range of exhibitors participated in the fair, including Ableworld, which showcased mobility aids and home adaptations, and Sandstone Brook, who are known for igniting a spark in elderly care.
The Armed Forces Outreach Coordinator was present to provide advice on support for veterans and military families, while Cara – PT and CG Sports Therapy offered visitors insights into physical fitness and sports rehabilitation. Other notable exhibitors included Community Resource, promoting wellbeing services, and Gemini, who provided massage therapy and showcased hair wigs.
Attendees also benefited from free consultations at stands like the GP Surgery, Hands for Healing, and the Shropshire Community Blood Pressure Checking Project. Local organisations like Wem SEN Hub/PAAC Shropshire were also present, offering support for those with special educational needs.
As part of the day’s events, a special celebration was held for Ellie Taylor, who recently won a volunteer award for her work at the Exotic Zoo in Telford. Ellie was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Huw Edwards, Chair of Wem Rural Parish Council, to honour her achievements.
Local presenter and host Sian Brennan-Todd (www.sianbrennantodd.com) interviewed Ellie and several of the organisations, offering insights into their services and highlighting the fantastic work being done in the community.

The Health and Wellbeing Fair was not just an informative event but also a chance for local residents to engage with key health and wellbeing providers, such as the Fire Service, Wem Area Climate Action, and Wem Parish Paths Partnership.
The event provided visitors with practical advice on leading healthier lives, supported by the expertise of exhibitors across a variety of disciplines. The fair’s success underlined the strong sense of community in Wem and its surrounding areas, with attendees leaving feeling empowered and better equipped to improve their health and wellbeing.
